Dr. Saima Furqan

A medical graduate from Delhi University and a post graduate in Public Health from JNMC, Karnataka, over 5 years of her professional career received appreciation for her compassionate work in the field of Palliative Care. She was invited as a guest and speaker to Australia by her colleagues to share her work and the challenges she faces while trying to educate people about Palliative Care. She received the award of recognition for the same by Wollundary Rotary Club where she spoke about the work and barriers being faced by the people of Inida in terms of access to Palliative Care and Pain Relief.

Mr. Anas Furqan

Dr. Parul Prinja
Regional Head, Haryana and Senior Consultant, Pal Care Foundation

Dr. Parul has over 20 years of experience in the field of Medicine. She initiated her career as a Research Officer at PGIMER, Chandigarh followed by her work as a Medical Officer at Institute of Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences and Cuban Model Primary Health Centre, Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala.

Dr. Parul was exposed to the suffering and lack of palliative care services from her DNB training days where she realized that merely giving chemotherapy, surgery and radiation is simply inadequate.

Dr. Wajahat Ahmad
Regional Head , J&K and Consultant , Pal Care Foundation

Graduated from Government Medical College Jammu, did his Post Graduation in Radiation Oncology from Shere-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Wajahat has a total experience of over 7 years. His compassion and dedication has helped patients suffering with terminal stage of cancer. Dr. Wajahat has been very instrumental in reaching out to the ones in need when and where needed. As a Member and Regional Head at Pal Care, he strive to work towards eliminating suffering of those in need in the state of J&K.

Dr. Prinja has worked as an Internist before appointed as Registrar at Artemis Health Institute, Gurgaon. She has served as Junior Consultant at Dept of General Medicine and Dept of Medical Oncology Columbia Asia Hospital and Attending Consultant at Dept of Medical Oncology & BMT Venkateshwar Hospital, Dwarka. She is currently working as a Consultant ( Internal Medicine) at PowerGrid Co-operation of India.

Dr. Charu Singh (Anesthesiologist, Palliative Care Expert)

Dr. Charu Singh has served as a Professor at the Department of Pain and Palliative, School
of Medicine, Kochi for over a decade. She has a vast area of experience in mentoring,
training and educating healthcare professionals in the filed of Palliative Care.

Dr. Wajahat Ahmad (Radio-Oncology)

Dr. Umar Jan (Neuro-Psychiatrist)

Dr. Umar Jan has a vast experience in dealing with patients who suffering from various mental health related issues such as Headache of all kinds, Depression, Anxiety Symptoms(Ghabrahat, restlessness with insomnia), OCD, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Sleep problem, Loss of memory in elderly, Parkinson disease, Epilepsy, Sexual Problem in Men, Aggression Behavior in children, Career and marital counselling , Drug – De- addiction (smoking) etc. He has Almost 7 year experience in the field of Neuro-Psychiatrist.

Dr. Ali Azer (Radio- Oncology)
Consultant, Pal Care Foundation

Dr. Ali did his MBBS, Government Medical College,Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and his MD in Radio-Oncology from GCRI, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He is also trained in Pain &Palliative Medicine (CCPPM) at Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Studies (TIPS), Pallium
India, World Health Organization Collaborating Centre (WHOCC) for Training and Policy on Access to Pain Relief with a Scholarship from International Association for Hospice &Palliative Care (IAHPC).
Professionally, Dr. Ali has worked as Medical Officer at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kavaratti,CHC, Kadmat and FAC Bitra. He has also served as Casualty Medical Officer at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kavaratti and as registrar in Department of Medicine & Cardiac Care Unit, Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kavaratti. Dr. Ali has an expertise in Department of Urology & Renal Transplantation with privileges to assist and perform Urological procedures.Dr. Ali has a vast experience in the field of Palliative Care. He established akshadweep Institute of Palliative Medicine which is recognized as centre of best performance along with other palliative care centres in India. He is currently thr Medical Officer in charge of Recognized Medical Institution (RMI) for supply of Morphine. He is known for his exceptional services as Palliative Care Physician and is dedicatedly involved in Home based Care at Kavaratti. He is the first Oncologist for the UT of Lakshadweep.

Dr. Somya Jain (General Medicine)

Dr. Somya did her MBBS from JNU Medical College, Ajjmer and DNB from Moolchand Hospital Delhi. She has over 14 years of working experiance and has worked at various major hospitals in Delhi/NCR like Medanta, Fortis and Max Saket.

Dr. Ayesha ( Hemato- Oncologist),
Consultant, Pal Care Foundation

Completed Med school and post graduation in radiotherapy from Kasturba medical college Manipal. National training in Palliative Care from TATA memorial hospital Mumbai and Fellowship in Palliative Medicine from IPM Calicut.

Dr. Sindhu has worked in top prestigious institutes like Indraprastha Apollo Hospital New Delhi, P D Hinduja hospital Mumbai, TATA Memorial Hospital Mumbai, Artemis Hospitals Gurgaon, and was also associated with a number of NGOs like DNiP Care, Can Support, Can kids, Indian Cancer Society, Global Cancer Concern India, Help Foundation and New Delhi Children’s Hospital and Research Center.

She has experience of over 18 years in the field of Oncology and Pain and Palliative Medicine. She has worked as a senior palliative care physician , in charge of all palliative oncology cases and heading the home care team in RGCIRC. Dr. Sindhu is currently working as a Consultant Oncologist and Palliative Care Physician at Signature and Park Hospitals.

Dr. Ajay (Pediatrician)

Dr. Ajay Kumar is a Consultant & Neonatologist in Bhagat Hospital, Janakpuri ( Dec 2018) and Maharaja Agarsen hospital, Dwarka ( March 2019) in New Delhi. He has over 11 years of working experience that include his working as visiting Pediatric Consultant in Grace Hospital (Dwarka), Newlife hospital( Palam), Ansari Hospital ( Sagarpur), ACE Hospital ( Nasirpur) and Shayama Hospital ( Mahavie Enclave). Dr. Ajay runs a private clinic too. His clinic’s name is Mishika Chid Clinic & Vccination centre which is located in Mahavir Enclave where all routine and emergency services are availabe for Newborn and Child. All latest Vaccination & immunization are available in clinic.

Dr. Mohammad Adnan (Physio-Neurotherapist)

Dr. Mohamad Adnan has worked in a variety of settings encompassing Adult & Pediatric Neurological Conditions , Orthopedics & Pediatrics surgery, Chronic disease & Pain management through ‘AIIMS, VMMC & Safdarjung, and St. Stephens Hospital as well as providing Home Physiotherapy Rehabilitation for patients with Stroke, Parkinson, Spinal surgery, Hip & Knee Replacement surgery and Postoperative Fracture management or Rehabilitation.

He is particularly interested in Neuromanual therapy , exercises and care of the Elderly as he is Certified in Neuromanual Therapy for Nerve- related pain by Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AOMPT) and Internationally Certified for Shoulder & Lumbar Spine Rehabilitation.

Dr. Ramita ( Special Educator and Speech Therapist)
Consultant, Pal Care Foundation

Dr. Ramita is special educator who was previously trained at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital New Delhi. She has expertise in specialised training of children with learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and ADHD. Dr. Ramita has over 10 to 12 years of experience in treating children particularly with disabilities. She is now the visiting consultant at Dr. Grover’s Children Clinic and Immunization Centre, Janakpuri. Dr. Ramita is the honoured member of National Disability Assistance Committee.

Toni Coleman ( Senior Palliative Care Nurse, Australia), Medical Adviser, Pal Care Foundation

Toni has been nursing in Regional NSW, Australia for the past 30 years. As a registered nurse, she has a vast experience as perioperative nurse, nurse manager, Aged Care and for the past 12 years has focused her career on End of Life and Death Care within their community.
Toni is a member of a highly respected nurse led Palliative Care team with in her region. She is passionate about sharing knowledge with nursing and medical students and regularly participates in Community Awareness Programs. Her passion for Palliative Care extended beyond her regional community setting

Sandra Hawkins ( Senior Palliative Care Nurse, Australia), Medical Adviser, Pal Care Foundation

For the last ten years Sanndra has worked as a Palliative Care Nurse in the community of Wagga Wagga. Previously she was a community nurse and before that as a Dental Therapist in South Australia and NSW.

Sandra has been privileged to volunteer in small villages in Nepal as a Dental Therapist with a Rotary Program. She has also spent time in the remote communities in Northern Territory delivering healthcare. More recently she traveled to Cambodia on several occasions with a local charity based in Wagga. They have built two schools, educated the staff and provided ongoing support to the schools with mentoring and fundraising for school supplies and uniforms. This has been a very rewarding experience with one of the first students commencing university this year.

Sandra is closely associated with Pal Care Foundation. She believes it is the privilege of being able to share experiences and information that benefits both the mentors and those receiving the mentoring. Having traveled in India and other developing countries, she has gained an understanding of the difficult conditions in which people live but also the strength derived from family structures and communities.

Dr. Odette Spruyt, (Founder of Australasian Palliative Link International)
Senior Faculty and Mentor, Pal Care Foundation

Odette trained in palliative medicine in the UK, as a specialist registrar at St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney, an experience which provided her with insights into a broad spectrum of palliative care, community, consultative and hospice care in the culturally diverse East End of London.
She moved to Central Sydney Area Health Service in 1994 and to Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in 1997, to take up position of Director of Pain and Palliative Care, a position she held until 2014. Her clinical interests have been in cancer pain management, improving end of life care in a cancer centre setting, and working to improve the integration of palliative care into cancer care.

Dr. Martin Kennedy, (Senior Consultant, Rehabilitation and Palliative Cre Specialist, Australia)

Dr Martin Kennedy is a Palliative, Pain and Rehabilitation Medicine Physician and a Staff Specialist in palliative medicine for Hammond Care, with conjoint appointments at Sydney, NSW and Macquarie Universities. Martin has over 25 years of experience in specialist sub- acute medical care and for over 15 years has worked right across Northern Sydney in public and private acute care hospitals, inpatient and outpatient palliative care and rehabilitation units and the community. Martin has an abiding passion for caring for and travelling with patients facing the most complex of life limiting and disabling illnesses and their loved ones, through the various phases of their rehabilitation, palliative and end of life journeys.

John Haberecht, ( Director of Learning & Development for Queensland Health’s Centre for Palliative Care Research & Education )

John is a Registered Nurse whose career has been primarily in palliative care, in the community and in consultation liaison palliative care teams in the acute setting.
John co-wrote and taught in the Graduate Diploma in Nursing (Palliative Care) at Australian Catholic University, and is currently Director of Learning and Development at Queensland Health’s Centre for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE) based at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. In that role he has helped take a pilot palliative care education project on to become a continuing education offering for Registered Nurses at Queensland University of Technology, and completed a Master of Education specializing in online learning

Kathleen ( Palliative Care Nurse, Canada), Faculty and Mentor, Pal Care Foundation

Kathleen is a Registered Nurse whose palliative care journey began in India. She began working in tertiary palliative care in Canada in 2012, and has advanced her nursing education by completing her Bachelor of Nursing as well as several palliative care courses and workshops. Currently, she is specialty certified in Hospice Palliative Care. Kathleen is passionate about ensuring that all patients at end of life receive the dignity and comfort that they deserve.

Dr. Aditi Chaturvedi, Senior Faculty and Mentor, Pal Care Foundation

A pharmocologist by education, Dr Aditi Chaturvedi has a keen interest in palliative care, particularly in providing pain relief to cancer patients. Living in Srikot, in the Pauri Garhwal area of Uttarakhand, Dr Aditi teaches at the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali
Government Medical Sciences and Research Institute. Despite her full time job at the medical college, managing her home and a young eight-year old son, Dr Aditi finds time to offer her services as a volunteer to pallative care initiaves. “I feel that all people who are dying should be able to die in peace,” says Dr Aditi.
Although specializing in pharmacology, Dr Aditi had a leaning towards palliative care and pain management as both her parents died of cancer. She studied palliative care at the regional cancer centre in Hyderabad, and is now planning to pursue further studies in palliative care via distance education.
